In Nov. when I went to the play thing.. I wrote this play... feel free to comment on what you think...
Rest In Peace, Mike. Always Remember. Never forgotten. I love you forever, Mike. Always.
The play opens up when Alex is sitting outside the funeral home, staring out to no where, watching cars go by, when Stephanie comes outside.
Stephanie- [walks up to Alex] Hey, How are you holding up?
Alex- [shrugs] Alright, I guess, you?
Stephanie- [sits down next to Alex] Eh, I just can’t believe he’s actually gone.
Alex- [looks down] I know me either….. Have you talked to Carol?
Stephanie- Yeah, she’s asking everybody about that night.
Alex- [looks at Stephanie] You’re not going to tell. You said you weren’t.
Stephanie- I know, but Alex, she deserves to know, she is his mother.
Alex- It doesn’t matter. You said you wouldn’t tell. You have to keep it to yourself.
Stephanie- Carol is going to talk to us anyway. She knows we were there. Everyone knows we were there.
Alex- [getting mad] Steph, it doesn’t matter. You’re not saying anything.
Stephanie- [talking calmly, not trying to start an argument] Alex, she deserves to know, it was her son. It’s our fault Mike died. It’s our fault and you know it.
Alex- [stands up pissed off] How was it our fault? Mike did it himself.
Stephanie- [stands up, pointing at Alex] He didn’t do all of it. Yes, he did do shrooms and ecstasy, but he didn’t want do do heroin. You talked him into it. You told him he had to do it. You said he would do it if he really was a friend to you. That’s why he shot up, that’s what killed him.
Alex- [looking at Stephanie, yelling] Bullshit!
Stephanie- You know it’s true. I was there, Alex. You can’t lie to me. You said he would do it if he was your friend. How could you say something like that? Mike didn’t want to do it, you know that. That’s why he refused a few times before he shot up. You know Mike considered you a broker, but you still pressured him. You know Mike is someone that would do anything to prove how good of a friend you were, but you still said it.
Alex- [turns away, realizing it’s the truth]
Stephanie- [Stops yelling, calming down] You can’t hide it forever, Alex. We went to High School with Mike. He was 20. You think he watned to die? No, he didn’t.
Alex- [softly] I know, I didn’t say he did. I don’t know why I pushed him to do it. I don’t know why I said all that. I know Mike was my best friend. I shouldn’t have said that. You even tried to stop him, but he didn’t listen. He had to prove it, because I said that.
Stephanie- I know you didn’t want it to hurt him, but it did. You can’t change it. I’m always going to be your friend, but I can never forget about this.
Alex- I know, I fucked up.
Stephanie- [walking up to Alex] We have to tell. Think of how you’ll feel. What about in a few months, or years, knowing what happened, and didn’t tell anyone, not even his mother. Think of all the guilt of Mike’s death you’ll have building up inside you.
Alex- [turning towards Stephanie] But what if we tell Carol and she presses charges? What happens if she calls the cops, huh? What happens then?
Stephanie- She isn’t going to call the cops. She knows it was an accident. She knows how much we cared about him; how much we miss him. And if she does, then I’ll go to jail. It happened and you can’t change it. She wants closer, Alex. She wants to know how her only son died. She can’t be wondering forever.
Alex- You’ll go to jail if she calls the cops?
Stephanie- Yes, I’ll go to jail. Carol is my friend. Alex, I am so sure that she won’t call the cops, I won’t have to go to jail. Mike was my boyfriend, remember? He meant a lot to me. I love him with all my heart, and now he is gone. I’ve known him since we were little. I was with him for two years. I really miss him, Alex. You can’t hide this forever.
Alex- [turning away] I cared about him too. I really did. I still do. I didn’t mean for it to hurt him. I really didn’t. Mike was a brother to me. I grew up with him. He can’t be gone now. We have to grow up still. We have to get old.
Stephanie- [putting an arm on Alex’s shoulder] I know, I know. Think of what Mike would want here. He would want Carol to know. He wouldn’t want you to hide.
Alex- [looking down, getting teary eyed] I know. He wouldn’t want me in trouble. He’d say it’s the right thing to tell.
Stephanie- [rubbing Alex’s back] Exactly, she needs to know, Alex. Do it for her. Do it for yourself, if not, do it for Mike. He’d want you to.
Alex [crying softly] Yeah, I guess you’re right.
Stephanie- So what are you going to do?
Alex- [wiping eyes] What Mike wants. I’m going to tell Carol.
Stephanie- [smiling slightly, satisfied] Good, Carol and Mike are waiting.
