If the dog had eaten it, I would have been pissed. Our backyard neighbors threw some sort of bone over the fence around Thanksgiving that made my dog really sick and he had some NASTY diarrhea all over for days. He's 16 years old and on the brink of being put down anyways. I was SO angry at our stupid neighbors. We walked the dogs (the other dog didn't get sick) over there and told them what was up.
Living with roommates and a dog is really difficult; my pitbull has bad food allergies, and feeding her grains of any kind make her fur fall out. Roommates would still forget or leave things unattended, and their guests would do things like make her sit and beg for popcorn. SHE doesn't know she's allergic! Saying things like "but she likes it" doesn't mean shit!
Just explain about the problem, which it looks like you did, and try and be pleasant. Giving dogs treats is just natural to some people and it's usually with the best of intentions.
