Dear (soon-to-be former) roommate,

While we have had immense amounts of fun, I respect the fact that we have our differences in philosophy and you think that's why we're separating. That's fine, you can believe that. However, it is not that we're different, but because we were looking for different qualities in a roommate.

:( That's kinda sad. I take it you're a freshman in college. I suppose I'd get along with your soon-to-be former roommate - me and my freshman roommate buddied up for the gym and the parties because it was scary to go on your own, since we both knew pretty much no one. Six years later, we're still very dear friends and I was a bridesmaid in her wedding last May. I can understand where she's coming from; it must be hard to want to be friends with your roommate and to just end up annoying them. I don't think she was looking for a surrogate mother- she was looking for the lifelong, 'we were roommates freshman year, now thirty years later..." friend which, for whatever reason, you weren't able to be. (I'm not judging, there's a lot of people I wouldn't be able to be friends with.) I hope you both find roommates more to your taste!
