Sungmin woke up from his sleep when he felt the arm that was wrapping his waist since last night was being lifted. He then had only his lower part of the body on his- Hyukjae's bed- and yawned. He rubbed his eyes to make the sleepiness go away.
"Hyukkie?" He looked around but no one was in the room. 'Downstairs, maybe..' he thought, as he recalled hearing footsteps on the staircase. He called out for his best friend again, because he hates it when people do NOT answer his calls or shouts.
"I'm down here! In the kitchen!" Hyukjae yelled, hoping that Sungmin could hear him. He was about to take the frying pan out of the cabinet, to make pancakes for their breakfast and planned to have Sungmin spilled the beans about what happened last night. He was worried -damn worried. If there was something that Sungmin is good at -beside being good in academics, sports, and musical instruments- it would be scaring Hyukjae with his tears from last night. 'That hyung did a pretty good job' his mind spoke.
Minutes later, after washing himself up, Sungmin went downstairs, welcomed by the sweet scent of caramel -or maple syrup, he just shrugged it off. "Good morning, Hyukkie!" He greeted the man wearing monkey-printed apron. He then smiled at the man.
"Good morning, Min!" Hyukjae greeted back, showing his gummy smile. He patted the smaller's head and told him to take a seat. Sungmin just nodded before doing as he was told to do. He reached out for two slices of pancakes and put them onto his pink plate. He smiled, showing his brightly-white teeth, as he caught a sight of his fork and knife which are pink in color and bunny-printed.
Hyukjae stared at his best friend, who didn't pay any attention to anything or anyone else except his food. Hyukjae chuckled slightly, seeing the man acting oh-so-cutely, which made Sungmin look at him with "what's-wrong-with-you?-crazy?" expression.
"You're cute." He said, trying to help the cutey who seemed at a lost cause know why he was chuckling. Sungmin pouted, "You know that I'm a man and cute is so not me. Nope, not me at all. Not by the slightest bit." He protested and took one bite of his pancake.
His best friend was shook his head and smiled before stuffing the pancake into his awaiting-empty-stomach. The rest of the breakfast time went silent but they still spare glances to each other.

Sungmin was watching "Happy Together", a variety show hosted by Korea's best MC, Kang Hodong, when Hyukjae came and sat beside him. Hyukjae took the remote control and turned off the TV. Sungmin turned his head, giving Hyukja his disbelief look.
"Tell me about last night." Hyukjae cut Sungmin who was about to protest. Sungmin swallowed his own saliva, hard, before nodding and began telling Hyukjae what happened.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~FLASHBACK~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sungmin and his boyfriend was having dinner at the restaurant where they first met. He didn't know why his boyfriend chose this place for a dinner, but just went along with it. Sungmin talked about his pet bunny while his boyfriend just keep silent and listened to his story. Sungmin knew something was not right about the latter, because he wasn't the type who wouldn't get excited about bunnies or turtles -at least not Sungmin's boyfriend.
"...And that's how Berry (the bunny's given name) got out the bathroom. I was seriously mad, he made the floor wet," He put his story to an end, turning his gaze to the man who was sitting in front of, with his head down.
"Sungie? Yesungie?" Getting no response, Sungmin waved his hands in front of Yesung's eyes, which made the latter jolted in surprise. "Uhh.. Where were you?" Yesung asked, looking a bit lost, which made it obvious that he wasn't paying any attention to what Sungmin was saying.
Sungmin sighed, "I've finished my story AND my dinner. What's wrong, Sungie? Is there something bothering you? Are you not feeling well? Should we go to the clinic now?" Sungmin threw the questions before Yesung could cut him.
"W-what, no. Just problems with work, Min. Really, I'm fine, Min." Yesung denied, laughing awkwardly to lighten the atmosphere, but that didn't seem to work out as Sungmin started to eye him suspiciously.
"Spill the beans, Kim Jongwoon." Sungmin forced out. He knew that Yesung was hiding something from him. And somehow he felt like he was about to lose Yesung or Kim Jongwoon, which is his real name, in a matter of time.
"I-I have something to say," Yesung began, Sungmin just nod as a sign for Yesung to keep going. "I-I think we should break up." Yesung finished off with his head hung low.
Sungmin was taken aback, wanting to not believe what the latter was saying. "What?! W-why?"
He asked, tears were wlready gathering at the corner of eyes. He didn't understand why Yesung wanted to break up with him when they were such a loving couple. The couple that made all their colleagues full of envy. Thinking about how perfect they were, his tears fell from his eyes without him realizing.
"Why?! Please tell me that you're lying. Please.." Sungmin pleaded in between his sobs, voice sounded desperate.
Seeing his boyfriend shed tears, Yesung also joined Sungmin in crying. Truthfully he didn't want Sungmin to cry, he didn't want to break Sungmin's heart. He loved this man. Heck, he was madly in love with the man. He didn't want this to happen, he didn't want to let Sungmin go. But who was he to go against fate.
Yesung was forced to marry someone that even Yesung himself didn't know who. But what he was sure of, was that the marriage was his father's wish and the man he was going to marry was the son of his father's best friend from high school. Sure, Yesung could have said no, but not this time. Not when his father threatened him to make Sungmin's life miserable.
His life was already miserable as it is and Yesung didn't need his father to rub salt on his lover's wound, thank you very much. Sungmin lost his parents and little brother in an accident when he 3 years old. Since then, he had been living with his grandparents, who hated him from the very bottom of their hearts, just because he looks like his mother who was a mistress. It's enough as it is, it's lucky enough that his best friend's family, who happens to be a close friend to his mother, took him with them and raised him just as if he was their own.
As much as he didn't want to, Yesung had to let Sungmin go. As much as Yesung wanted to love Sungmin forever, he had to forget about his feelings now. He wasn't sure how, and he knew that he couldn't deny his feelings, but he'll try. He'll try to move on. Yesung was also sure that Sungmin could forget him -at least forget their love from before, because love does not last forever. There, the evidence was given. What else could he ask for?
Yesung then told Sungmin about everthing but dropped his father's threat.
After hearing Yesung's explanations, Sungmin finally calmed down a little. He understood almost everything, but what he couldn't understand was why wouldn't Yesung fight for them. Why would Yesung just obey his father's wish or order, Sungmin couldn't think properly about that. But then again, everything happens for a reason. There must have been a reason why cupid took his arrow that shot the two, back. Sungmin looked at Yesung and smiled, "Okay, I understand. We- like you said, we should break up."
Yesung felt guilty but he couldn't do anything about it. He lifted Sungmin's chin and caressed his cheeks with both of his thumbs. "I'm sorry, Sungmin-ah. I really am. Forgive me.." Yesung was crying hard by the time he said the words. His sobs were uncontrollable. He did nothing wrong, so why would they end up like this? Cruel love is just too cruel.
Sungmin wiped his boyfriend's tears away. "It's okay, Yesung. I understand. Everything happens for a reason, fate can be cruel but behind it lies a miracle, right?"
"I love you, I really do. Even now. As much as I want to hate you, I couldn't. I couldn't bring myself to do so because you're special to me. And I don't know whay but I'm wishing for you to be happy with your partner, even if it's not me who will be by your side. You've held a big spot in me, Yesung-ah. And you better know it that you're a one lucky guy." Sungmin threw all the words randomly but he meant every single word that he spilled, adding a lame joke at the end.
Hearing those words just made Yesung's heart sank. He had just break Sungmin's heart but the latter just face it calmly. And what's more, Sungmin forgive him just like that after hearing his reasons. He knew that Sungmin was still sad, and knowing that made his guilt swelled up.
Yesung stared at Sungmin and the latter did the same. "Thank you, Sungmin. Thank you very much for understanding. Just know that I loved you in the past, I love you today and I'll love till the day I become a married man. I'm sorry again, Sungmin." He finished off with with a grateful smile, even though his eyes showed sadness.
Sungmin chuckled and nodded, "Yah! You're so cheesy~~ What do you say, friends?" He extended his right hand for a handshake which Yesung gladly took it.
"Friends"
And with that they stood up from their seats and parted ways outside the restaurant. Sungmin sighed. As he was walking, all the past memories he shared with his now ex-boyfriend came to haunt him. 'The happy times' he mumbled, letting his tears fall again for the second time that night, as he was powerless to deny the tears' requests.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~NOW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sungmin cried again as he told Hyukjae what happened.
Hyukjae felt sorry and patted Sungmin's head lovingly, as the smaller buried his head at the crook of his neck. He could feel the hot wet liquid wetting his clothed neck.
"I'm sorry that I couldn't do anything, Min." Said Hyukjae, feeling a bit disappointed in himself. "Hyukkie~ Don't be like this. You can do one thing, though!" Sungmin, who had lifted his head from the neck, beamed. He looked up at his best friend and said "You can take me out to the amusement park! And buy me ice cream! And bunny! And every cute stuff! And-"
"Okay, okay. I'll take you there and buy you whatever you want, okay? But for now, can you please go and gt yourself ready to go out?" Hyukjae cut the talkative bunny off. Sungmin nodded eagerly and skipped all his way to his room.
Hyukjae sighed,a part of him was sad as Sungmin had just lost his loved ones, and the other part of him was happy as Sungmin finally opened up to him. As he was being all happy with what Sungmin had done, now he was terrified with what Sungmin had just said.
'Bunny, ice cream, cute stuffs' and did Hyukjae just say that he'll buy ANYTHING for Sungmin?
SHIT! There goes his monthly salary for February.
