If couture fashion has become an art form for art's sake then I can see it having an escapist quality to it. Like people who enjoy dressing up for the Rennaisance. Or Steampunk LARPs.

I saw Anna Wintour on some late night talk show recently. I think it might have been Letterman. It's hilarious how seriously she takes herself. I don't think she's aware what a joke she's become.
