Hallucinations.

Shouldn't you leave this to someone a little more...up to date?

I've done some light reading since my arrival. Besides, no-one else seemed up to the task.

What sorts of hallucinations?

None of your business.

And who cares anyway? It'll either clear up or kill us, and no doctors here are going to cure it.

grouch. just because your boyfriend got kidnapped... unmocked_lawr August 17 2011, 16:38:43 UTC
Fair enough. Call it curiosity.

You're messing around with curiosity and pretty little lists and people are being tortured and murdered. Get some perspective. I don't know what you did back home but you couldn't have been a very effective inspector.

I trust you have more useful things to do during the day. Be so good as to enlighten me.

Dealing with people who were kidnapped last night. Making contacts with people who actually know what they're doing, a group which apparently doesn't include you. Getting information on the place itself so we can figure out how to tear it to the ground and scatter Aguilar's ashes over the rubble.

Who cares about the people stupid enough to be bribed into swallowing the pills down in return for weapons or shiny pins? If they want to be collaborators let them rot.

Dealing with people who were kidnapped last night is precisely what I am talking about here. You misunderstand me, and you speak as if I have not been doing all three for well over a month.

I ask about the aforementioned idiots because I have reason to believe the creatures in the institute may have been human once, too. The two are not unrelated.

People are still getting taken away and tortured. You don't seem to be doing a very good job. If anything Aguilar's been using us even worse than Landel, and you couldn't even deal with a pathetic doctor with delusions of grandeur.

[slight pause, apparently too angry to read the second part until he was halfway throgh his rant]

What makes you think that?

And I suppose if you took on the job, you would have standing armies ready to swoop down on any orderlies hovering about the place around dinnertime within the week. Do you actually presume to know anything about this process, or are you simply slinging barbs at me in an attempt to deal with your own guilt?

I don't see how that concerns you.

I'm not the one setting myself as this big know-it-all collector of information and director of traffic. I'm not taking on the job, there is no job except where you decided there was one. I'm just trying to do what I can without puffing myself up. You're also the one with easy access to information and weaponry, far more than me, and I've yet to see you do anything with it.

It might.

So an expression of interest in the experimental trials is tantamount to setting myself up as omniscient? I don't profess to know everything about the experimental trials, but I have enough information about them to know to choose my own battles. Preventing subjects from being taken is not one of them at the present time. If you're trying to do what you can, then I suggest you get on with it.

At least one of the patients who took the pills was transformed into an unthinking creature. It was some time before any semblance of rational thought returned to them.

And you haven't been particularly forthcoming with that information. If you'd just up and told me where they were holding the 'sleep studies' instead of playing the paranoid recluse, I might have saved someone last night instead of wasting time.

Hm. Then no, nothing. Are you sure you didn't help yourself to the pills as well?

The last roommate--from your world, I might remind you--who expressed interest in that information ended up attempting murder on one of the subjects. Besides, you wouldn't have saved anyone. The doors are impenetrable until the experiment is complete.

I took samples for further research but did not ingest any of them myself. Not that it made a whit of difference, in the end; they disappeared from my pocket as soon as I left the room.

You're really going to go putting von Karma on the level of Aguilar? He was an insane perfectionistt. Aguilar could slaughter us all. Between the two I'd take von Karma--and I worked with the man, so that's saying a lot. Even a monster like von Karma or a cold-hearted son of a bitch like me has someone to protect here.

Didn't happen to prick yourself on a needle?

Aguilar seems to have a vested interest in keeping us alive for the moment. It appears we're no use to him dead.

I was more careful than that. Terribly sorry to disappoint you.
