Day 54: Intercom, Noon
After the whole debacle in the cafeteria and the subsequent methods that the soldiers had used to keep the patients in line, it was no wonder that the Head Doctor sounded grim and terse as he finally returned to his usual station during the current intercom announcement.
"I just wanted to say, patients," he said slowly, deliberately, and without any of his usual cheery salutations, "that I am very disappointed in your behavior. I'd been happy at how you were all adhering to our rules and regulations, but I..."
He trailed off, as if it wasn't within his power to say exactly what he was thinking. One got the image of someone staring hard at him, perhaps with a decorated uniform and arms crossed over his chest.
"...I can see now that we'll have to give our disciplinary measures further review.
"Lunch today will be fish and chips. Everything along with it per usual."
He paused, then sighed.
"I had hoped we'd made more progress."
The intercom clicked off.
