[From

If Damon could've moved at his usual speed, he would've, but he was stuck actually walking, and not even that fast at that since yes, he was being careful with his leg. He didn't need it healing even slower than it already was.
He cast a glance around the corner before turning it. He didn't like having a beam of light bobbing behind him like that; might as well throw up a bat signal announcing come eat us, but it was either that or have Rick grope his way through the dark, the latter of which would inevitably end up with Rick tripping into him somehow. So, you know. Limited options ( ... )

Damon stopped short for a split second before continuing on. "What, did he have the hat, too?"
Should he even question this? There were a lot of things to be said about Rick, but delusional actually wasn't one of them. Well, not unless you counted that one time he'd thought it was a good idea to try to face off with a vampire, but he'd had the whole heartbreak thing going for him (very tragic) and Damon knew better than anyone that love made you incredibly stupid. Besides, given that Stefan was out hunting forest animals with Edward Cullen right now, Damon couldn't say he had a lot of grounds to argue the alleged presence of...Indiana Jones.

If only he could tell himself he could focus on things that made sense, like a vampire with a limp. He squinted through the darkness, parking the light near Damon's feet as if it would... help him see the injury. He was curious, okay? Because he was, in fact, capable of putting it together on his own - even if it didn't make a damn bit of sense. Two years researching vampires had taught him one fundamental: nothing left lasting injuries but wood, and that was only so long as it was actually in a wound. Even vervain burns didn't last longer than a ( ... )

Or tried to move on, anyway, given that Alaric fell right into him before he could take two more steps. Damon spun around on instinct at the touch. He raised his eyes to the ceiling and let out an annoyed breath-and a flash of panic ran through him, so fast he barely had time to react, but noticeable enough that he threw a sharp look at Rick. What?
He brushed it off. Not what he needed right now.
But okay, what was going on with Rick? Smooth wasn't ever a word Damon would've applied to him, but the guy didn't exactly make a habit of reenacting a bad slapstick comedy, either. As far as Damon was aware, Rick was fully capable of keeping his balance for longer than half a damn second. Otherwise, he'd have impaled himself on his own stake several times over by now ( ... )
