Day 56: Twin Pines Restaurant (Noon)

May 09, 2011 11:10

Okay, so it had taken a little longer than Wally had thought, but eventually he'd found the restaurant he'd been aiming for and gotten himself inside and settled with a pot of coffee and what would hopefully be a steaming hot meal on the way pretty soon. He'd picked a seat next to the window so he could look out at the snow, feeling a little ( Read more... )

The hardware store had turned out to be useless. He probably should have figured as much, all things considering. In fact, had Dent not been there, going there would have proved to be nothing more than a phenomenal waste of time. As it stood, however, he'd at least managed to speak to someone a little regarding what was going on, confirmed Dent was still alive and present, and calmed down significantly from this morning. All in all, it hadn't been a total waste, even if he'd technically walked out empty handed ( ... )

Having spent most of his time trying to get a feel for the area (and finding to his greatest chagrin that the antique shop here was very much the same one he and Lana had found themselves in that fateful first night), Gant now found himself a bit on the cold side and quite hungry. There only seemed to be two restaurants in town, and only one looked like it served any kind of desirable fare. Though, compared to the mush served at the institute nowadays, Gant would take just about anything.

Feeling somewhat under-dressed for even a glorified diner like this, Gant was semi-conscious of some of the lunch crowd's judgmental stares he received upon entering. Well, he certainly hadn't been given the choice of what to wear, or he would never have been caught dead in the nastiest pair of acid-washed jeans in existence, or such an unmanly faded, pink paisley shirt. But at least his jacket, though smaller than he would have liked, covered him up somewhat ( ... )

A voice pulled his attention away from the window and back to reality. No, it wasn't a pretty waitress arriving with his food. Rather, it was an elderly gentleman. A fellow patient if the hand-me-down, 80's punk rock jeans were any indication. But the question drew a bright smile and Klavier gestured briefly to the opposing seat.

"Not at all. I'm not one to leave someone stranded and left with no where to sit but the floor. Help yourself." He hadn't actually been planning on any sort of conversation, but anyone with the courtesy to ask was certainly more than welcome. "Ah ha, we both probably should have guessed it would be packed and come earlier, ja? The way our new 'keepers' have been feeding us, I wouldn't be surprised if these people ran out of food before evening."

"Jolly!" What a polite young man the other had turned out to be! Gant's smile spread into a wider grin and he sat down, content with his luck. "Much obliged, young man."

That pink slop-whatever-it-was could be eaten, sure, but that was about the only thing anyone could say about it. Gant found himself chuckling at the other man's words. Not the full-blow bellow he liked to give, but the situation didn't quite call for that. Not yet, anyway. "Hardly qualifies as food, the stuff they give us now." Gant waved a hand. "Can't say I'm happy about the weather, but if getting us out means actual food, then I'd walk through a blizzard twice as bad without shoes or coat."

But enough of the cheap smalltalk. Gant like to know who he was dealing with, and having a cheerful friend like the man across the table could be another great reason to enjoy today despite the cold. "By the way, the name's Damon Gant. Er... retired Chief of Police, L.A.P.D."

Hah. Well wasn't he full of pep? Klavier couldn't help but smirk delightedly at both the reaction and the comment about the food being worth the weather. This seemed like a very nice change of pace so far. Casual conversations for the sake of small talk and shared company were nice every now and then. So frankly, Klavier was plenty willing to spend the remainder of lunch exchanging nonsensical pleasantries. But it was in hearing the other man's name that he paused and blinked, surprised ( ... )

Gant's eyebrows rose in surprise at the other man's words. Really, no one had kept up the legend of the crime computer? Or even had his little mishap on file for the newbies to read and acquaint themselves with? Well, it was fine with Gant if the kid didn't recognize him ( ... )
