Day 56: Bus 2

May 20, 2011 12:24

It was hard for Guy to believe that a farfetched idea of his might actually work out in the end, seeing how rare that was in this place. Still, he had found the leather and had been allowed to buy it, which meant that the toughest part at this point would be finding tools to work with and also blocking out enough time to work on making the sheath. Before he could locate Shinji, a nurse found him. With firm hands that didn't mean him any offense, he was moved on to the nearest bus. A soldier was waiting, and Kaworu almost withdrew as he was reached for. His resistance wasn't allowed, however. A hand was on his back, stopping his retreat. There was a time he wouldn't have minded, but the threat of a loss of self made him hesitate. His barriers were weak. The walls that protected the part of the soul that no one should enter had become permeable. The physical barrier of clothing meant more now, and in the end, it was enough to still him. He waited impassively as the hands searched him, and he considered the contact of a stranger that meant nothing, and yet, was more extended than anything previous. It was unwelcome in its lack of affection or intimacy. He dropped that thought quickly ( ... )

He really shouldn't have believed that his day was going to get any better after his confrontation with Lightning (was it Lightning? After the past hour or so, he still was sure). But he had dared to think that maybe the day would be better after he left the town, only to get pushed around by the hospital staff (soldiers?) and patted down like a criminal.

And he hated physical proximity with strangers. Not that he dared to do any more than a weak struggle, considering their bruising grip on his arm the moment he had tried to move away. And for some reason, it seemed like they hadn't been searching for his l'Cie mark. At the very least, they weren't looking for strange markings on his skin, which was... a kind of relief.

Still, he felt irritated and disorientated as he was ushered back on the bus, not sure if he was disappointed in himself for not putting up more of a fight or if he was just angry at the staff in general for being there ( ... )

It was a moment before he looked. The hesitation born of a lack of understanding that he was the one the words were directed at. But as the silence stretched too long, and he heard no words of agreement or refusal in response, he was finally brought to look. Another boy was watching him expectantly. This boy waited for a response (Kaworu's response), for the exchange of companionship, even if this was only small. He sought some sort of acceptance, but frail and casual with little meaning. Still, that didn't mean that silence or rejection wouldn't cause him pain. Small positive gestures often meant nothing, whereas negative ones could injure the soul ( ... )

He fidgeted as he waited for a response, nearly turning away from the awkwardness before he heard an answer. Giving an awkward nod of acknowledgment, Hope moved to sit at the very edge of the seat, still not entirely sure if he was welcome or not despite the words. It was almost funny how he felt nervous like it was the first day of school when he was supposedly on a different world with entirely different people that he might never see again when he managed to get home. If he managed to get home.

He would have thought he'd be less nervous in situations like this, but he wasn't in the slightest. In fact, the unfamiliarity of... everything, just made it worse. Even the bus they were on with its old seats seemed drastically different than anything from Cocoon. Different and uncomfortable and he hated it ( ... )
