Day 56: Bus 3

May 21, 2011 05:15

As the day came to a close, Claude's conversation with Tear weighed heavily on his mind. All the implications hadn't quite sunk in yet, but it unsettled him that she'd been able to feel and experience his time in the basement in such a strong way. Was there some kind of significance behind the fact she'd lived the moment he ran toward Guy in a ( Read more... )

Speaking with Tyrell hadn't been all bad, but whatever Harvey had been hoping to learn at the inn hadn't presented itself to him. All he could really say was that it seemed likely that the inn wasn't actually used -- or if it was, it wasn't frequented. That made sense, though, since he couldn't see why anyone would choose to come stay in a place like Doyleton. Trying to find enough to do to fill an entire day was like slow torture ( ... )

Goku was ushered back to the bus like a wayward duckling with a half-eaten bag of powdered donuts tucked under one short, muscular arm. He waited in line like the others to board, chewing away at another powdered donut that got more confectionery sugar on his face than down his throat ( ... )

"Ohhhh..." Goku replied as if those three words explained everything. They hadn't; he was just giving his brain time to process. The staring, though, didn't cease, but inevitably he had to deal with the parts of his face his tongue couldn't reach. That's where his hands came in. Rubbing off what he could from his cheeks onto his denim overalls, the young boy continued his silent fascination with the strange person. The silence, though, didn't last long. It never did.

"Were you cookin'?" The monkey boy asked, though he was pretty sure of his answer since that was how he usually got burned. "I was cookin' once and the wolf fell off the spit an' all the uhmm ashes hit me! It hurt a lot!" And the wolf turned out too crispy for his taste. Yeah, that had been a bad day all around.

The staring was unnerving. It always was, coming from someone this young. It was because kids didn't know that staring was rude, so they would keep on doing it with unblinking eyes that made you feel like you were about to get taken into an interrogation room or something. Harvey tried to counteract it by staring back, though in the end his urge to just sort of shove the kid's face until he was looking elsewhere became too strong, and he glanced out the window instead.

He couldn't even imagine how the staff would react if he started abusing a little kid. Shit, how had he gotten into this situation? Why had the boy decided to come sit with himOf course, it didn't end there. At least he hadn't been asked "why," although what he got wasn't much better. Harvey let out a sigh and closed his eyes for a moment. He had no idea why this kid had been cooking a wolf of all things (who the hell ate wolf meat?), but he also didn't care. "No, I wasn't cooking." And he wasn't going to say any more than that. He didn't know how the kid could ( ... )

"Oh," Well Goku was out of reasons. Or was he?! Wait--Yeah, he was. Maybe if he stared more, something would come to him. It didn't, and a sharp laugh behind him brought his attention away from the man. He caught sight of the blurry white of the landscape outside their bus. It was a much better experience to watch the land whizz by way overhead.

"I miss my cloud," Goku mumbled randomly as he leaned forward to get a better view of the dreary sky. No matter how many times he called for his nimbus cloud, it never came to him.

Gloomy weather rarely affected him, unless it electrocuted him, but today he couldn't stand to watch it. Sitting back in his seat with his small arms crossed over his chest, huffing, the monkey boy eventually noticed his seat mate again. As if he had suddenly materialized out of nowhere, Goku turned to him with a grin. "I'm Goku by the way!"

For a second there, Harvey had indulged the hope that he'd managed to shut the kid up somehow, since all he did was glance off and start muttering about "his cloud." He had no idea what what was about, but chances were the boy stared out of his window at the clouds when he was at home or something. It wasn't his concern and so he didn't comment on it, instead basking in the relative silence ( ... )
