[From here.]As Castiel exited the room block he'd been assigned to, it occurred to him that Gabriel had not caught up with him this time around. That was for the best. He had a difficult time shaking his brother off in this place, seeing how he couldn't disappear at the snap of a finger. If he'd had to bring his brother along on his lesson with ( Read more... )

"Our mission is of great importance, Mike," the Chief began, keeping his voice at an easy medium level. Loud enough to be heard, but low enough to keep from startling any creepy crawlies or other patients. He didn't want anyone or anything getting too nosy about his exploits.

He flashed his light around, checking the area, then proceeded ahead. "You noticed what those so-called soldiers gave us for dinner tonight, didn't you, Mike?"

He was certain Meekins had noticed. That gloppy goop was a little conspicuous, sitting there in its bowl. A crime against humanity.

Well... at least this time, Meekins didn't get anything caught in the door as he went through it. This had to be a good sign!

He dutifully followed his former superior into the next hallway, which was much wider than the one from which he had come. Also, unlike the nearly deserted previous hall, several people were milling about here. Meekins recognized none of them... but of course for him, that wouldn't have really been saying much.

"You mean, that pink gruel that looks like the time when Missile threw up on Gumshoe's feet after eating all those Samurai hot dogs, Sir?" How could Meekins forget? After all, he had been appointed with the heroic mission of cleaning that all up. "Wh-what about it, Sir?" Though he was successful at keeping his voice at the same volume that Gant used, his cringe was very much audible. "Are-- Are we going on an investigation to find out what's in that stuff, Sir?"

To be honest, Meekins wasn't sure he wanted to know. His renewed bravery and resolve only went so far.

Mike had always been one for words. Gant took a moment to cast an annoyed glance his subordinate's ways before rolling his eyes.

"Yes. That."

Gant turned the corner, leading them on into the next hallway. He was glad it wasn't that far to the cafeteria and, intuitively, the kitchen. He didn't know how much more of Mike's presence he could take, and he'd only just met up with the kid!

What was Gant's life? Really?
