After how many times Lightning had passed through here so far, there was absolutely no uncertainty in the efficient, deliberate way she made her path through the darkened halls of the institute... until she left her cell block proper, and found herself faced with a dilemma. On her left was one way, leading to another block and, beyond that, out to the field where two days previous the roll call for the female patients had taken place; on her right was the way to the hall extending the entire length of the structure's front, to the front entrance, "sun" room....
Which way had a better chance of locating Hope?
The young woman paused, trying to recall if she'd ever gone over what to do if in this sort of situation with him... and then remembered that even if she had, Hope probably wouldn't remember it anyway. The only thing worse than the fact that Hope was here and potentially having to deal with the sadistic attentions of those in charge, was the knowledge that his mind had somehow been broken - even worse than Snow' ( ... )
