Day 57: Cafeteria

Edgar's charming company had raised Anise's spirits enough that not even the Head Doctor's voice could bring them back down. Besides, she was feeling pretty sure that Landel wasn't actually around. To begin with, it wouldn't make sense, and secondly, his announcements sounded suspiciously like ones she'd already heard before. While Anise wasn't ( Read more... )

Despite the return of the hospital ruse-complete with Landel stepping up to the microphone (or a recording of him, at least, if what he'd read about an announcement "remarkably similar to today's" having been broadcast earlier was true)-Izaya was displeased to find the decent food had not returned along with it. He accepted a bowl of pink slop with a barely repressed grimace, and then headed off to find a seat with a good view.

Once he was seated, however, Izaya pushed the gruel aside and set his notebook on the table in front of him instead, opening it up to begin sketching out a rough diagram of the inside of a lock. He had skipped the lesson of how locks work in an attempt to get Castiel working on something more quickly, but if the man was to be successful at it, being able to visualize what was going on where his eyes couldn't see would be a big help. He could slip the drawing to Castiel to study on his own time, or else post it on the bulletin. The latter option was far less appealing, but he might have to resort to it if ( ... )

"Ah?" Ippo was from Ikebukuro? Perhaps he shouldn't have given his real name, after all... But how very peculiar, to meet someone from that city that he hadn't already been aware of! Granted, there were many, many humans that he hadn't met, that he didn't know, that he might never get to play with-but even so...!

He gave a small laugh, somewhere between a low chuckle and a high giggle. "For all its size, the world is still such a small place!" he said cheerily, pleased by this turn of events. Did Ippo know of Ikebukuro's very own urban legend? Had he heard of the color gangs, or of Dollars? "It seems you're not alone, Ippo-kun; I know that one or two other people from Ikebukuro are here as well. Ah, are you still in school, or have you graduated? You didn't happen to go to Raira...?" What a curious coincidence it would be if that were the case! Oh, but Raira Academy was in the east ( ... )

"Eh?! Really? Ah--" Once Ippo realized he was suddenly towering over Izaya with both arms braced across the table, he staggered back into his seat, more than a little embarrassed by his behavior. "S-Sorry," he mumbled with his head tucked to his chest. He hadn't meant to make such a big deal about the comment, but it was more than the boxer could have ever hoped for in such a place ( ... )

Ippo's reaction had been even more enthusiastic than Izaya had anticipated. He'd become energetic with the mention of Shinjuku, but with the mention of others from Ikebukuro as well, he'd shot up from his seat. Izaya tilted his head upwards as Ippo began apologizing, simply smiling at the boy ( ... )
