How many times had Ritsuka been in hospitals? Far too many. He stepped forward and shone his light into the nearest alcove. Several rooms, all lined up along the walls, doors closed and with no activity in them. If his memory served him, the first rooms that would be in a hospital would be the examination rooms...

"It's going to be toward the back," he said, motioning down the hallway with his flashlight. "Toward the middle or in the very back, away from most of the noise so patients can recover."

The doctors would be closest to the front where they could easily pass between the exam rooms and their offices, or out to meeting areas. Ritsuka knew that set-up from all the times he'd gone to the hospital to visit his doctor. And he could never forget waking up after forgetting everything. That was a memory that would stay with him, photograph or no.

"...If your cure is here, it's that way."

Ritsuka's question sent the Replica halting on the spot, instantly becoming rigid as a board while his hands clenched tightly around his flashlight and weapon. Crap...! He shouldn't have mentioned that part about the medicine being a possible cure! Now the kid was butting into his business and casting even more doubt upon the only shred of hope Sechs had that night ( ... )

As he thought... Sechs' reaction was a clear indication that he didn't want to talk about whatever it was he needed a cure for. He went rigid and it wasn't until Ritsuka dropped the subject that he breathed out again. Whatever it was, Ritsuka hoped this drug was a cure then. It seemed important to Sechs and, even if he didn't know the guy very well, he didn't seem bad. Sure, they might not meet again since that seemed to be the way of the Institute, but... Ritsuka hoped they would. As gruff and hotheaded as Sechs seemed to be, he wasn't a bad person ( ... )

Busy scanning the area with his flashlight, Sechs didn't catch Ritsuka's reaction to his remark. What he heard in the boy's muttering was a hint of reluctance, and Sechs nodded with a soft grunt. Ritsuka had kept out of Sechs' business with the medicine, and he knew it best to return the favor; he didn't want to deal with the kid being all upset again anyways.

"Ah, gotcha!" he replied, able to at least relate to the boy's words somewhat. "I've had cybertechs work on me a few times before too. Although the place they work in doesn't resemble a hospital ward like this as much." It was more like a repair shop for vehicles than anything really.

When they stopped, a hint of movement in the darkness caught Sechs' eye, but he relaxed once he saw it was the flickering of Ritsuka's ears that got his attention. The Replica couldn't help but find the ear's motions amusing, like the concept that Kibitoshin's already pointed ears had been bigger before... Heh! Big ears...That tiny moment of amusement faded off quickly once Ritsuka spoke again. " ( ... )
