The sucker was sugary goodness in his mouth. He wouldn't have believe such a little thing could raise his spirits, but already he was feeling better. Maybe his blood sugar had been a little low.
"Are you a good patient?" Gant shot the question right back to the younger man, letting his light scroll down the hall. Now where, oh where, could the infirmary be?
For a moment, Gant thought he heard something from further down the hall, but he wasn't sure what that sound was. A kind of scuttling. He had hooked his arm around the brass candlestick to free up his hand for the sucker. He used his lips to hold the candy in place and returned the candlestick to his hand. He really didn't want to get into a fight, but if it came to that he damn sure would be prepared.
"Good chance we'll run into something soon, Admiral," he said around the sucker still pinched in his mouth. "On your guard."
"If I wasn't experiencing it, I'd find it just as unlikely... this place does love to make you doubt your own perceptions. However that serves their purpose is anyone's guess." He winced and hissed as a perfectly round circle gouged its way out of his arm. What kind of creature made a wound like that? He was getting very tired of how humans felt pain.
