Night 57: Infirmary

[ from here]For as direct as they were being, Riku understood how much of this section of Landel's remained unexplored. They were so focused on acquiring the drug that it hadn't occurred to them to stop-or, if it had, it was a thought stopped by his frustration with his partner for the night. To think he pushed off some old man because he thought he ( Read more... )

[from here]Was this what they'd been looking for? The room seemed fairly brightly colored as far as he could tell with his limited night vision, which wasn't quite what he'd expected. A well-disguised trap, perhaps. There were other captives here as well, and they weren't seizing or vomiting blood, so it looked safe enough. For the moment ( ... )

"Been here a week and a day," Gant answered quickly, having already counted the days many times since now. He wondered if a time would come when he would stop counting. That would truly be a sign of giving in and giving up, but Damon Gant was determined to not be one of those people ( ... )

So he'd been here a good amount of time at least. It was best to have a more knowledgable bodyguard when it came down to it. As entertaining as it was to speak to humans, it grew tiresome saying the same things over and over ( ... )

"Seem like a decent fellow to me," Gant muttered with a shrug. "But you've mentioned the bias of your people before..." Gant suddenly a bit wary of his friend the Admiral. Was he truly a victim, as he seemed to like to play, or was he actually a crazed murderer? He hadn't given that impression at all in their past meeting nor tonight, but his people, aliens or not, certainly seemed to have it in for him. He wasn't the police chief anymore, but the crime dog inside him was still alive and kicking. He still appreciated the thought of justice being served, but he had nothing to gain from it here. Really, why did it matter to him at all? He would rather not work alongside a criminal but what choice did he have at this point ( ... )

"Mmm yes, they were quite biased against me... amusingly enough, for not sharing their own biases. They weren't as fond of your species as I am, unfortunately. Such a shame." Trying to keep the frustration from his voice. It made no sense for them to hate such beautiful creatures! They had so much to learn from each other! And instead, just because they were so perfectly monstrous, so exquisitely deformed ( ... )

"A shame indeed..." Gant's was only half-listening again, a bit distracted with his current problem. Weighing the possibility of dying from poisoning against alien politics, Gant found himself strangely invested in the former over the latter.

The chief barely noticed the other's eye upon him during the process. He was still much too caught up in his own troubles to care much. He was not going to get sick from a little prick to the arm. He was not! Especially not when he was trying to make a good impression on the guy.

It looked like ZEX was also taking the dive after all. So nice of him to join Gant in the crazy venture. Gant was pretty sure they were safe, either way. Still, it had been unnerving, getting up the spirit to take the leap. "Not bad, actually. Just a little woozy." He squeezed the ache in his arm, slowly gaining control over himself again.

"Hope that medicine wasn't too bitter for you." He offered ZEX a grin. "Still standing, at least."
