Night 57: Stairwell by Waiting Room/Lobby 1

[From here.]It looked like they had the stairs to themselves, although the narrow space and the memories associated with it meant that Peter would have preferred to have the comfort of knowing that other people were also climbing them. Still, it wasn't like it was a long way up, and so he could be rid of the unfortunate association that he had soon ( Read more... )

Firo didn't think of himself as a particularly imaginative person, but no amount of imagination could make 'glorified torture' sound like it was a good thing. As far as he was aware, none of the prisoners here deserved it-and even if maybe one or two did, he didn't personally bear them any ill will. Thus it was with a nod and a grim expression that Firo followed Peter into the stairwell.

The going was quiet at first, but then Peter broke the silence with a question. Firo looked up to see the other man ahead of him on the stairs.

"Ah... yes, I have," he answered. "This morning, I was taken up to the chapel." It had been without his consent, but meeting Battler there hadn't been too bad, at least. "I haven't come up here at night yet, though."

Of course, the chapel. It was the one time they were allowed upstairs during the day, so it was good that Firo had already gotten some idea of what to expect. There was much more of the second floor to be seen than just that, of course. Firo would do well to know where people were taken for experiments, just in case a friend of his was ever unfortunate to get picked.

"All right," Peter responded as he reached the top of the stairs. "The hallway we're heading for is kind of in the opposite direction -- you'll see."

He would have felt more comfortable if he'd had another trained healer with him, or even Claire with her miracle blood, but he wasn't alone and that was what mattered. Peter quietly moved them out into the main hallway of the second floor.
