Day 58: Arts & Crafts (Fourth shift)

Aug 30, 2011 12:49

Firo was glad to see the end of lunch, if only for the fact that in a few more hours, the day would be over. Night was the only time he had any real freedom of movement, and it was the only time he could do something worth doing, instead of just sitting around ( Read more... )

There was far too much to speculate on from the events of the day alone. Much had shifted with little warning. The possible loss of a current ally in the way of him finding his 'real' self, and the return of two past allies--one remembering nothing, and one apparently remembering all. And to keep to a theme, it seemed the basement held worse than an overgrown cat, and the elements wielded as weapons. The way it was spoken of, she would in fact do well to be cautious--as she would also do well to investigate it as quickly as was possible. Her knowledge was sorely lacking, as had been pointed out today, and she was not at all willing to lose any more time ( ... )

Though his appetite had yet to make a reappearance, lunch with Tifa had taken some of the edge off his mood, and as long as he could keep distracted maybe he'd hold it together for the rest of the night too. Given the option, the sun room left him nothing but chatting and time to think, but maybe in arts & crafts he could bedazzle his eyepatch or something if he got really desperate ( ... )

The voice gave the user away before she even turned to look. Despite knowing he was here, despite him wanting to see her, still, her eyes widened as she took him in, scanning down him quickly as if to check if he was truly there. Only twice, that she recalled. Had this happened before. Ones disappeared to come back with memories intact. Except soon after they returned, the other two had vanished again. This time, more permanently ( ... )

In a perfect world, Renamon would be checking him out, and then she'd proceed to grab him by the collar and push him back against the table where they'd make out furiously in a flurry of paper hearts and glitter. In reality, she was probably checking to see if he'd sprouted a third arm or a lazer eye beam, just making sure he was a real boy and not a new institute creature feature ( ... )

[Would it help if I told you Badou could scream like one..?]"I came back for a shift, apparently. As a visitor." He shrugged as he said it, but there was a stiffness to the gesture. Alle knew him as well as anyone here, except maybe Heine, so it wasn't easy to discount it as some trick of the institute. Compounded with the fact that he'd seen Artemis change over night... It was entirely too easy to believe ( ... )

[...possibly. perhaps a demonstration is in order.]A visitor. Was it. Her eyes shadowed visibly at that, too much of the time before etched into her mind. A visitor. So they weren't simply shells or creations. There was something hard lodged in her throat. She was finding it hard to swallow. She had understood, had never truly thought otherwise, but that brief hope that Rika was not really here... Was not really held somewhere out of Renamon's reach.... It vanished as a candle snuffed, and with the realization, emotion passed quickly over the Digimon's face and vanished into careful neutrality. She nodded, giving nothing more. "I see ( ... )

[All you have to do is drop a cigarette in the lake.]Badou was relatively perceptive when he wanted to be, so he saw the shadow of emotion flicker across her features. He understood it well enough. It was a lot easier to focus on feeling sorry for himself than to think that every visitor they'd ever gotten had been someone once held in this place, long before them, and maybe long after. It meant that not everything they saw here was a fancy trick of the mind. It was real, and it meant that no one they had ever cared about was safe, and there was a good chance they'd never go home again. And that was a really fucking depressing thought ( ... )

What the man said made sense, and what Renamon had briefly thought. She nodded to him as he spoke, just as grateful to drop what she did not want to consider. Facts and theories were far more allowed, far easier to speak on than emotions or thoughts too personal. "I'm not denying that at all," she replied. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend, though I'd be curious how the military exists as the larger threat in this."

Even saying that, the Digimon settled where she was, folding her hands together. "Maybe there's a way to take advantage of that." It was something she had held before, something she believed she might have voiced to Badou himself in the past. The institute and the people that ran it wanted something from them--and so the easiest way to obstruct that, was to find out what they wanted and deny then it. This had been what had seemed like a logical course of action, and yet, still, when it came down to it, there was not yet a pattern in what was wanted ( ... )

That was true. How did that old saying hold up when the enemy of your enemy was also a power-hungry sadistic sociopath? Was there even a lesser evil in this equation? Landel hadn't really done better for them - the military just seemed to be more efficient and regular about its torture ( ... )

If the man was willing for discourse. And though Landel talked more than any other in the building, the man was nearly invisible to the naked eye--in the way that he seemed to shun one on one interactions. It made sense, of course; when you took into consideration that the times he had surfaced, he'd been under attack. From the reports given on those, however, it seemed as if there had been no threat at all. A shame ( ... )

"Damn," Badou muttered. He hadn't tried with the army, but the old staff had stonewalled him until he'd finally given up playing nice and drilling them for information. Unless someone decided to step up and make the first move, it was damn near impossible to get near any of them.

Badou hesitated, absorbed in his own frustration, then nodded at her suggestion. The last time he'd been to Doyleton at night he'd nearly gotten his ass eaten by zombies, and something in the basement was so bad that no one seemed to want to talk about it. It might not necessarily lead to anything, but it was their only option right now. At the least, Doyleton had weapons. Guns. Who knew what the basement held?

"It's worth a shot. Let me know when you're headin' out to Doyleton, if you don't mind a tag-along." He shook his head. "I'd kill to get my hands on a gun again."

[ and about at a stopping point? ]

Two, then. That was two that had asked for guns within this day. Surprisingly, she cocked a slight grin in amusement. "Earlier, a girl I met requested the same. Maybe you should partner with her."

Teasing aside, the Digimon still nodded to him. "I'll let you know. If I go there without you, I'll keep an eye out on anything I can bring back. Large or small?" The terminology was beyond her, but she could at least view differents in style after watching them being used.

The man laughed, and she took that as a good sign--was actually pleased to see it. She smiled slightly at him, closing her eyes. "I'll let her know. She's new, and likely needs someone with experience to show her around." If there was a secondary meaning, nothing was given away. Only what was said. The Digimon's eyes remained closed.

Until the man started outlining what he wanted. She watched him closely, curious, then took the page when it was offered. "I'll look for something like this." There was a shift in the room, people beginning to move out of the room. Badou spoke once more and Renamon glanced to him. "It's nothing." She stood, taking the page with her, and then nodded to him. "...It's good to see you again, Badou."
