There was a bit of a spring in the chief's step as he headed out in the hallway to wait for Meekins. He would have been humming if not for the fear of drawing too much attention to himself. So, instead, he merely contented himself with rocking back on his heels as he waited.
And waited.
And waited.
And still Mike didn't show. Odd. Meekins wasn't the type to back out when he knew there would be consequences if he failed to show. But he was also prone to fits of forgetfulness, clumsiness, and also just fits in general. Well, there was also the possibility something more had happened to Mike. Like... being taken in for torture sessions or something. But the institute wouldn't learn anything new from someone like Mike Meekins. Surely the kid was safe from that. He was probably just stumbling around, bugging the sanity out of some other patient. Probably. Surely ( ... )
