If he had still been as infuriated as he had been when first leaving his room, he probably would have done that immediately. Right now, there was a slight delay. An exclamation point appeared over Scott's head suddenly.* Just as he had been about to give up staring at the ominous tendrils of white gas that occasionally drifted out of the ceiling vents (oh boy, Aguilar was doing something that would probably mess with everyone's heads, whoop-de-doo), he spotted a short, scrawny form emerging into the hall. He was already moving by the time Peter spotted him in turn.

"Hey! No, Peter, come back! Hey!" he shouted after the boy, getting stalled for a moment by a stairwell door slamming in his face. The stalling didn't help Peter much, however. As Scott wrenched open the door and dashed up the stairs after him, he heard a screech of rubber on linoleum, loud enough that even someone as directionally challenged as Scott could tell where it was coming from - and where its source was probably headed. Sure enough, Scott's flashlight crossed a black mark on the ground when he reached the top, practically an arrow pointing after the sound of retreating footsteps
