Day 59: Intercom, Evening

Oct 19, 2011 00:33

As the day began drawing to a close, the intercom flickered to life. Instead of Harrington's voice, however, Berg's calm tone filtered through the speakers ( Read more... )

After a strenuous evening of being hit on by a dashing male supermodel, Badou was in a relatively good mood. Sure, Heine was in the same room so he'd probably never live it down, but all in all Daemon had been good company and there were plenty of worse ways to spend an evening. Badou would know ( ... )

After his strange breakfast with Tifa, Zack remembered a few things. He'd gone into the Sun Room and had been immediately distracted by the weird fort that had been in the works there. He'd decided to take a seat and watch the kids do their thing while contemplating whether or not to join in, and then --

Well, then he'd woken up and the light coming through the glass overhead had been much dimmer. There had been a soldier nudging him with his gun like it was a stick instead of a firearm and Zack had been able to do little more than stumble to his feet and try to gain his bearings.

He'd fallen asleep. For what had to be at least six hours or something. Not that time made any sense here, but the point was that he'd passed out and he'd passed out hard. Which really wasn't a good sign, but at the same time it gave him a burst of energy that had been very much needed ( ... )

Badou waved lazily as his new roommate walked in. From that hairstyle alone he was gonna throw 'boring' out of his first assessment. He looked kinda beat and, if Badou wasn't mistaken, mildly disapproving of his eating habits. Weird. He didn't seem like he had the same stuck-up attitude as Armand.

"Plenty of rest, not so much beauty." He cocked his head and grinned a little. "Guess I couldn't be prettier if I tried." Jacked up eyeball, a nose that had obviously been broken more than once - yup, he was a work of art alright.

He raked his fingers back through his hair. After a while, you just stopped questioning the sleep. "Long day?"

It was true that the guy looked like he'd gone a couple rounds with a brick wall, but Zack was used to seeing injuries here. Whether it had been from a fight with one of the soldiers or something with more claws didn't seem that relevant. His roommate would probably mention it if it mattered, or Zack would ask if there was an awkward pause in the conversation ( ... )

Badou was pretty accustomed to people who never let him live anything down. Usually they were people who knew him for a lot longer than his new roommate, but he didn't really mind all that much. It was lighthearted teasing, and it gave them a way to get around the usual awkwardness.

More importantly, it meant Badou had a reason to give him the finger before he even knew his first name. All good friendships started off that way, right? "How about if my fist starts taking after your face." He replied flatly. "I think they'd get along pretty well."

The set of his shoulders and quirk of his lips belied any real irritation. He frowned thoughtfully, shoving the unidentifiable pink mass around on his plate. "One day shouldn't be a big deal. It's when you start sleeping a lot that you've gotta be careful."

Being offered the finger on a first meeting was -- well, it wasn't all that common, that was for sure. Even though Zack knew that it was usually something you were supposed to take offense to, that wasn't how he felt about it in this context. His roommate was making it pretty clear that he wasn't taking any of this seriously, and so Zack just laughed. "Hey, you're welcome to try."

Nine times out of ten, when it came to a fight he could be pretty sure that he'd come out as the winner. That was sort of understood when you'd climbed to the top of the ranks of your world's largest military organization. He'd had a fan club. That sort of trumped everything.

Not that he really wanted to advertise that right now. Instead, Zack allowed himself to be distracted by what the guy said next. It was meant as a reassurance, but he took something else out of it, which was that his roommate was talking from experience. "You sound like you know a thing or two about it. Aren't you new?"

It was good to know that his new roommate didn't take offence easily. Badou didn't ask for more than that, so as long as this guy could put up with his usual bitching chances were they'd get along just fine ( ... )

It seemed like any possibilities of the two of them actually fighting had already fallen flat. Zack honestly wouldn't have minded a good spar, especially since they had the room to themselves and weren't going to get in trouble for it, but he honestly didn't even know if his roommate had combat training ( ... )
