Not that he didn't like the younger man's company, but he'd really suffered enough food-related embarrassment for one day.
Thankfully, the library was free of Shinsengumi captains, so there wasn't any issue with him slipping in, snagging the poetry book he'd been looking at the previous day off the shelf, and then settling in at an empty table with his food.

"Thank you for telling me." He wasn't really in the habit of offering thanks for anything, but he knew being impolite here was uncalled for, and offering up the words was easy enough, after all.

He considered the interruption worthwhile, at any rate. While he couldn't know the exact value of what he'd learned, at least he'd learned something. It was information to think over, anyway, while he moved on to whichever inane activity this place decided to throw at him next.
