Nightshift 38: File Room 2

The door into the room had given way surprisingly easily, but that alone was no reason to be optimistic. Bruce didn't close the broken door completely, sweeping his flashlight over even the darkest corners to check for monsters. He found none. Time was of the essence; he could hear almost every sound coming from the Entry Room, but it was important now that he trust Wally enough to let him handle the woman and protect the girl.

The Flash would be fine. He would.

Dust, thought Bruce as he searched for "W," moving through the narrow rows. Everything was covered in dust. Bruce did his best not to breathe it in when he kicked up a few clouds here and there, the flecks of it glowing and floating and falling in the beam of the flashlight in his hand. From the right sort of angle Bruce almost thought the specks had gained life of their own, and he found himself tensing up all too quickly at the slightest movement he could see from most anything.

Predictably, all the file cabinets were locked. Seeing as the majority of the population at Landel's couldn't be expected to have lock-picking knowledge, Bruce assumed that the locks on these cabinets (and maybe even the cabinets themselves) had been broken and damaged many times before. Yet, nearly everything was still intact, which was food for thought as he found and set to work on the cabinet he needed. Unlike the "sleep study" woman's gun, the file cabinets and their locks were pretty standard. He pulled out the wedge and wire he'd taken from the issued radio earlier, prying and pulling until the pins shifted and the cabinet opened.

Wally West. Bruce Wayne.

They were both there, alright, and he flipped the folders open quickly to check the contents before shutting them and moving on, looking for "S." The Batman was in familiar territory now: the merciful blankness that came from bearing in mind a single focus, concentrating on the one task before him. It didn't take much time before he'd found the next cabinet and had it opened, searching for...

William Sandia.

Wasting not even the time needed to shut the cabinet properly, Bruce grabbed the folder and got out.
