Nightshift 46: West Wing South Hall 2-B

[falling in from here]The sound Kurogane made as he fell echoed in the empty hallway and soon faded out to silence. That had been stupid. He should have been more prepared for the lock to snap suddenly and not have gone tumbling into the hallway like that. But the ninja couldn't take back the action now. At least no one had been around to see him ( Read more... )

[From here]

This corridor was as dark as the rest of them but she could hear voices a little way ahead, see figures moving in the light of Zack's torch. They didn't seem threatening, so she paid them little heed after a cursory glance. Unless they became a threat, she didn't really care too much about them.

There was a door almost as soon as they turned and a few paces further, another, while the corridor stretched out ahead of them. "What do you think, Zack?"

From the looks of things, there had been some sort of fight here. The corpses littering the ground were proof enough of that, and when Zack looked further ahead with the help of his flashlight, he also noticed a group of four who were probably the ones who'd been forced to fight ( ... )

It said something that blood and death didn't affect her anymore. If there were corpses it just meant that whatever was dead was no longer alive to be a threat to her. She stepped over them carelessly, as though they were just rocks or roots inconveniently in her path, more an annoyance than anything.

"It would be kind of embarrassing to miss a treasure trove because we couldn't be bothered to open a door," she replied with a soft laugh. Or to get killed because they hadn't checked it first and there was something waiting behind it. It would be pretty bad to spend the next day bandaged up because of such a rookie mistake.

And then the door didn't open. "Well, that was anticlimactic," she said with a smirk, feeling a little amused at herself for her concern. They could always bust open the door but... "Let's keep going. I'm more interested in learning my way around tonight, I think."

While Zack wasn't sure about a treasure trove, he could definitely relate to what Cissnei was saying. Moving on wasn't a bad idea either, though, and so he backed away from the door and lifted up his hands in a retreating motion. It was kind of a shame, he had to admit. He would have liked to show off in front of Cissnei by breaking down the door, but apparently that would have to wait for some other night.

"Fair enough," he responded easily, moving ahead to the door that was right next to the first. While he would have expected it to be shut just as tight, it looked like someone had beaten them to the punch and broken the lock somehow. At least it made their lives a little easier.

Swinging the door open, Zack directed his flashlight inside and saw... another hallway. "Well, that isn't too interesting," he said bluntly. He moved to the side so that the Turk could poke her head in and see for herself. "What do you think?" He was kind of hoping for something more striking, but he could hear voices in there. Maybe it was worth looking ( ... )
