Day 49: Noon - Main Street

Apr 22, 2010 19:33

Having said goodbye to Remy, Meche paused to think about where to go next. Lunch was the obvious decision, and looking at all the cookbooks had made her hungry anyway. She was pretty sure she remembered a restaurant on the next side street over ("Twin Pines," the coupon said); hopefully it had something a little healthier than burgers. She steeled ( Read more... )

Badou made this sound easy.

Just down the street he had said. Well, she stil hadn't found it yet. And no one was helping either. Most of the locals ignored her and her questions.

Who put a stinger up these people's butts?"Shiva..." The brunette stopped on the sidewalk and studied her coupons hard as if they could show the way if just kept staring. If she hadn't wasted all this time looking for the place, she could have gotten her nails done. Obviously she took great care of her hands, but the only time she ever groomed her finger nails was when they were starting to get too long to fight with. Another man passed her while she stood practically in the middle of the sidewalk, letting her know how much he appreciated the inconvenience with a sneer. Even her friendly smile was getting her nowhere. Self-consciously, Tifa tried to pull up her hoodie, hoping to hide her affiliation with the institute. Unfortunately, the grey hoodie was just too small to make it over her chest ( ... )

While Zack had been having a nice enough time chatting with Usopp, there was only so much he could say about tools and repairing ships. He'd gotten the guy inside and more or less made sure that he wasn't going to catch cold, so he considered it a successful mission. And he'd met someone new. Usopp seemed like a good guy, and Zack certainly wouldn't mind chatting him up again some other time ( ... )

Tifa held up her head as far back as it would go, what with her plastic rain hood continuously obscuring her vision of the newcomer as her eyes continued to climb. With a nice wad of bagel stuck in her cheek, the brunette sat frozen for a moment once recognition blossomed in her brown eyes, but quickly she began choking down her half chewed meal to reply. It also gave her a distraction from the initial surprise of seeing Zack again. Finally she spoke, her face harboring a dry smile ( ... )

Tifa had a point. He always seemed to wander up on her when she was in the middle of something and not paying attention, but it wasn't like he meant to take her by surprise. Zack had been forced to sneak into places during missions in the past, but it wasn't exactly his area of expertise. Then again, with the way the rain was coming down, he couldn't blame her for not hearing him coming ( ... )

"Thanks..." Tifa replied sheepishly with a soft laugh. She was kind of embarrassed that, out of the two of them, she was the one acting the fool. With nowhere else to put her juice, she held it in her hand with the rest of her soggy breakfast. Her attention moved up into grey sky, flinching lightly when a rain drop hit too near her eye. The weather was hardly terrible, but Zack was right, why be outside getting rained on when there were plenty of places to take shelter in ( ... )

It was decided, then! Tifa didn't really seem to know where she was going (some tour guide! Though he knew better than to tease her; they hadn't been that close), so it was up to him to lead them to food. Zack didn't know where the Twin Pines place was either, so that left them with the Tasty Burger ( ... )
