Day 49: Noon - Ames Street

Apr 23, 2010 15:52

Once Asuka felt the first drops of rain, she pulled up her bright yellow hood of the raincoat. This was a stupidly thought out plan. Who scheduled field trips when there was crappy weather? Well, she took that back. Her own school in Japan did that a lot too. Not because of weather though, she always had to stay behind in case of an angel attack. It was unspoken of course, but the eva pilot was sure Shinji wouldn't last on his own without her. So sacrifices had to be made for the greater good, and as much as she enjoyed her occupation, she had really wanted to go to Okinawa with rest of her friends.

I even wasted time practicing my scuba diving.

And the only person she could strut around in her new striped bathing suit had been Shinji. What a buzz kill.

Her mood began to sour with the weather as she watched the nurses begin to wrangle the patients under a dry roof. The redhead had moved away from the crowd that lingered by the buses and the nurses apparently hadn't spotted her yet. Actually--she looked around and behind her--none of the nurses were very close by. Knowing this was probably her only chance, Asuka began to slowly retreat from the faculty toward Ames street. She needed to find better information or grab a local in hopes they could take her away. Not everyone could be in on this conspiracy--or whatever it was--right? Someone should know something.

Slinking away was the easy part unfortunately. Trying to blend in was a whole other story. It would have been one thing if she had her normal clothes, but no. She was decked out in second-hand thrift products that no doubt sent the wrong signal to the locals. She had never gotten so many dirty looks from adults before and, frankly, it was beginning to piss her off. All she could do was stare back until they got uncomfortable or walked passed her. She probably had more intelligence in her twat than these yokels had in their entire body. And it was shameful to know she needed help from them.

Most of the streets looked virtually the same, identical numbers of businesses on either side. If the locals were going to be so openly hostile with the patients, she needed to find someone outside this sphere. Her answer came in the form of orderly residential neighborhoods blocks away from Doyleton.

"Perfect..." Her salvation was just too close to use proper caution. The redhead had eyes only for the neighborhood as she sprinted as fast as she could. She didn't get far.

"Lorelei!"

Asuka froze mid-step, recognizing that voice. Her nurse. Greeeat. The redhead wondered if she had followed behind her. She turned around slowly, trying to keep a petulant scowl off her face for the woman who had sabotaged her plan.

"Residential areas are off limits to patients. I know you're smarter than this, Miss Adler..." Her expression one of a disappointed parent.

She can't keep tabs on me all day.

She'd find away to slip off again, but for now Asuka fumed silently as she walked back across the street.
