When Anise stepped outside, she braced herself for the pounding rain that was sure to soak and flatten her pigtails, but even after taking a few steps, nothing hit her. Not only that, but she couldn't even hear the storm anymore. The dramatic difference in atmosphere between this place and what she had anticipated left the girl disoriented, and that feeling only grew as she looked around at her surroundings.
There was no rain. They weren't even outdoors. They were inside an elegant room with a green carpet laid along the center of a stone floor. At the far end, there were three large thrones with a king, his expression serious, seated in the middle one. To his left and right were two enormous statues, and before him were several knights: some acting as guards, and others seemingly delivering a message or report of some kind.
Anise knew this room. She came here a few times during her journey. This was the throne room in Baticul, and the man on the throne was none other than King Ingobert of Kimlasca. Despite the high security, nobody gave a single glance at the trio that had just entered the room, seemingly occupied with whatever was being discussed.
This had to be a dream. It was almost like they were back on Auldrant, but that couldn't be right. They were in an institute, on another planet. They couldn't just walk home and see the people they knew. That was impossible. How would they have gotten here?
Her mouth hanging open in shock and disbelief, Anise could only stare wide-eyed at the surreal scene before her. Once she realized that this image wasn't just a daydream that would disappear after a few seconds, she finally spoke.
"Is this... for real?"
