The day had been an interesting one. Zack was still working through the fact that Aerith was gone, trying to look at the bright side (she wasn't dead) and yet painfully aware of the truth (she was brainwashed; she'd been experimented on, treated like meat rather than a real girl) thanks to Yuffie. Zack wouldn't have wanted to be kept in the dark about it, and it only made him more certain that he couldn't go home yet

Zack wasn't sure if generous was the right word for it. It was more that Landel liked messing with them, and it wouldn't be very fun if he just kept them locked up the whole time. He had to let them stretch their legs and give them the illusion of being able to win, but that was exactly where he was making his mistake. Someday he was going to slip, or there was going to be an opening, or someone would break in to help them. This couldn't last forever
