Walking through the darkness, Sechs reluctantly admitted to himself that going alone to somewhere dangerous as the second floor with his condition wasn't exactly the smartest idea in the world. Heck, he could easily picture Kibitoshin having some spectacular fret fest if he knew about what Sechs was doing right then! Still, whatever ( Read more... )

His eyes revealed little more of note than his sense of smell had as they continued. Still, the peace didn’t reassure him so much as make him anxious--anxious to get through the challenging areas along the way to the basement, such as the Sun Room, where guard dogs often lurked with the intention of stopping them.

There could be no stopping. Even being slowed down was something he’d do what he could to avoid.

Considering the subject he and the others were currently discussing, it was fitting that the radios took that moment to turn on, the kind of coincidence Landel’s Institute revelled in.

As if on cue, the man who called himself Marc flickered onto the radios, transmitting in an odd sort of three-part stereo over theirs. If nothing else, he and those before him had been persistent -- but everything from the clues they chose to give, to the fact that 'Jill' had apparently been captured, to the excessively upbeat and optimistic way in which these recent broadcasters had spoken suggested less competence than the one who had come before.

Landel's trick last night had completely stopped this one's attempt to 'help' the patients, after all. (And the price of it had been -- whatever had happened to that man, a question that had been beyond Sasuke's subtlety to ask without so much as knowing his name or appearance. Just a voice; but the irony of the radio was that most of the Institute was in the same boat as Sasuke. Just a voice.)

Sasuke moved into the next hall in silence, listening to the broadcast with a frown.
