L spoke to Lunge as they walked. "Landel must have something more than this planned for tonight--his comments were too grandiose if he was only going to be turning the lights on, and I don't think he'd bother with a demonstration of his control of the Institute's power grid for its own sake. My first guess would therefore be that he wants us to see something, and that it has yet to happen." To his own ears, his voice sounded peculiar, a touch too thick and too slow. No--tired.
Passing through the short stretch of corridor near the bathroom took no time at all: soon enough, they were in the more populated hallway. People, more identifiable than usual, passed back and forth in the low light, while the shards of glass scattered across the floor underlined the unfortunate necessity of wearing shoes.
"Also, 'Alec wasn't as fortunate'--what do you suppose he meant by that? If Jill had betrayed Jack, why would she have bothered to try to bring him back ( ... )

"Naturally," he answered. "He's always liked a show- it's just a matter of how damaging it will be. The targets this time seem to be the 'hero'-figures of the Institute. As for that comment..." He smiled faintly, more out of interest than anything. "He could be referring to something else some time back- when they apparently all worked together, maybe. The note I found last night seems to indicate they all knew each other."
Then again, isn't this all about perspective? ( ... )
