Gimme a Head with Hair

Apr 26, 2005 12:01

OK, so bellanotsoblu requested this poll some time ago, but I am only getting around to posting it now. She was wondering what it is "normal" to spend on hair care, and as neither of us can think of a more scientific instrument than a LiveJournal poll, here is...

Poll The Haircut Poll
Thank you for your responses and your support of scientific inquiry.

I don't know if I can complete the poll. I haven't had a haircut since 1998.

Well, you could always answer the questions with muttonchop care in mind.

OK, I went ahead and completed it based on pre-1998 haircuts, so you may have to adjust for inflation.

Since this poll is so scientific, that will be no problem.

Uhm...you didn't use Zero as any of the answers. How can I participate? What body hair would YOU like me to keep in mind when I take this quiz?

Well, you're still eligible for scalp massages. Those are always better than the haircut anyway.

I was just glad you started at $10. My haircuts cost $8.50. I tip my guy, becasue he's that good and that inexpensive. He also does not try to sell me extra hair care goop, gel, highlights, or toner.

Really? Where do you go? I usually go to SuperCuts/Cost Cutters/Great Clips and end up paying almost $20 (including tip) for a clipper cut that takes them 5 minutes. That always burns me up.

I go to an old time barber shop on Milwaukee street, right betwwen the McDonald's and State Farm, in that teeny tiny storefront.

The median age of the clients and employees is about 70.

But the haircuts are cheap, and the conversation is always interesting, one way or the other.

Under the characterization portion, I wish you had included "smart." My wonderful husband would go to Cost Cutters and get a nice cut 50% of the time and a horrible chop job a la Bugs Bunny the other 50%. Before our wedding I insisted that he see MY hairdresser at Diane Jon Salon. She did such a nice job that he consistently goes back to her, despite having to spend two and a half times as much. He never looks scalped anymore!

Yeah, that used to be my experience, too. I never really thought of my change as "smart," but you make an excellent point!

Thanks DAMPHA!!! But I do have to say that it's not so much that you GO to the salon to get your hair cut it's more your word choice and being upset that they didn't have your products and being sooooo excited when they did have YOUR products. You might be the first male to ever receive hair products as a gift from me.

and... EXCUSE MOI for making such generalizations!!! And i am strongly fighting the urge of subtracting points for some word usage and knowledge of extras at the salon.

The awful truth is that I don't actually use those hair products in my hair. I put them on ice cream.

y'know, if you're going to put Salon hair products on ice cream, why not add caviar? It's just as edible, and less expensive.

On a slightly unrelated note, I always wanted to create a band called "Paul Mitchell and the Split Ends."

Oh, absolutely. In fact, styling mousse and shad roe on black currant gelato is an unbeatable combination.
