 I just finnished reading good omens and I've come to an important conclusion.  My two favourite appocolypses are this book and the third season of Buffy.  Thusly if we could just put Joss Wheton and Neil Gaiman together in a room to brainstorm that would be an end of the world we could all agree upon as glorious, and probable quite brittish.
