I have thick skin when it comes to tragedies, disasters, and wars. I acknowledge that events are Bad on a certain level, but it is hard for me to feel affected by them. It's amazing, isn't it? I think our brains are made that way for a reason; if we reacted the same way to every disaster in the world, we wouldn't be able to stay sane.

i think your sister's right: if every tragedy were so real to us, we wouldn't be able to live life.
do you remember the end of your freshman year, when several people had close relatives or friends die within the space of a week or two? that was one time that it all hit me hard.
