I've come to the conclusion, after many hours of listening, playing, and reading the music of dozens of different artists, including rock, blues, classical, techno, rap, and country.   That The beatles are by far the greatest band in musical history.  Noone even compares to them, not even Zeppelin, Floyd, etc.  The messages and themes of there music ( Read more... )

i don't personally think there is a difinative best band.
i think the beatles are amazing,top 3.
i think they're amazing at writing songs.
however,i can't say they are the best at playing them.they really aren't that crazy talented at playing their instruments.

i'm totally not going against anything you are saying.
what i just really didn't even need to be broughtup.

you know what's really cool.

saying they're not that good instrumentalist, is like saying beethoven sucked at piano. George Harrison is probably the most underrated, blues, and slide guitarist ever. His guitar solos are some of the most difficult to pull of. And when you listen to songs like let it be and imagine its the simplicity of those songs that make the music great.

you're completley right, Harrison doesn't get the credit he deserves.
he also played Sitar, which is one of the most difficult intstruments in the world and could write amazing lyrics as well.

Led Zeppelin.
Because instrumentally they are one of the most incredible bands I've ever heard. Lennon and McCartney were definitely better songwriters than Page and Plant (Frankly, I'm not too big on the stuff Page wrote, everything after Zeppelin II is excellent though.) but they can't touch Zeppelin in terms of instrumental prowess. Not to say that Lennon and the rest weren't talented musicians, but you can't really compare John Bonham and Ringo Starr, Bonham is just more technically proficient. All in my opinion of course, because all it boils down to is taste.

Hah...I just realized how predictable this was.

No way curtin. The Beatles are the definative instrumental band. If it weren't for there incorporation of instruments from the east and etc, Led Zeppelin would most likely never have used them. And most of there later stuff like post1966 uses instruments and techniques so unusual its almost impossible to perform live.

If you combined Led Zeppelin instrumental talent with the lyrics of the beatles, you would get a band that would be orgasmic. We shall called it........The led bugs... Ay, Ay

God damn I'm a failure
