Dana, thank you very much for this group of articles about your city. I have been fascinated by the quirky New York ever since I read Helene Hanff's books and these stories have just extended that fascination and enhanced my very little knowledge. Maybe someday I can see it in person.

i hope so, evelyn. there is so much gentrifying here that what makes the city quriky is getting lost. its sad to see tour buses and walking tours go by and they say: this is where such and such took place in this gorgeous old building, except the gorgeous old building isn't there anymore. so far the cemeteries are keeping up with history.
had been saving articles for years and hope they'll last on livejournal (gotta get rid of the paper, but may keep the new york ones). hate letting thing like this go.
