Not a meme

Aug 05, 2010 12:27

I'm feeling out-of-sorts and quite a bit down, as can happen, and I was looking for a way to cheer myself up. There's a quotation identification meme floating around that I found intriguing, but this isn't that meme. This is just me, wandering back over my stories and picking out my favourite sentences or passages ( Read more... )

You're missing a fandom. *g* But yeah, hero and mother obsessions. Leadership, too. And time travel.

Oh, you're right! I didn't even think to go back through my really old stories, just the ones on LJ. Hmmm. Something to do?

I'm so glad you're back, sweetie. Thank you for you email. I wanted to respond but also wanted to call and managed to procrastinate myself into doing neither thing. If I called today, would it be okay timing for you?

Oh! I was out and didn't check the phone when I got back. Let me grab a drink and I'll call you momentarily. :-)

This is quite an impressive body of work! I especially love the one from Win and Jim - it's one I've actually remembered ever since the first time I read it.

I'm incredibly honoured by your comment, because I admire your writing so much. I'm so glad the Win and Jim passage stuck with you; it's one my overall favourites too.

Hope you're well and enjoying a lovely summer!

You are way too kind, hon. Thank you so much! Your words mean so much because I aspire to write as well as you!

The first bunch are from BSG, as you guessed. The middle ones with John and Cameron are from Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (TSCC). The one about Malcolm Reynolds is from Firefly/Serenity. And the last ones are Trek, as you know.

I'm so sorry you're feeling down!! I sent you an email; write me back?

I agree with N--leadership comes through in these choices. Also--written materials are mentioned a lot in these selections. Objects are important to you, their history and the memories they hold for people. I get the sense that you yourself are a very tactile person, remember a lot and absorb a lot through touch. Yeah, now that I think about it, touch is really important. I know that it's a big deal in Star Trek because of Spock's touch telepathy, but from what I read here, touch is mentioned a lot ( ... )

You're so perceptive and observant, my darling J. Your comment sent me off in a new writing direction; it seemed to catalyze and cohere some random thoughts I'd been trying to knit together into a new story.

Thank you for your kind, thoughtful words. I appreciate them more than I can say.

How are you doing?

Thank you!

I'm going to do this quickly, for you intimidate the hell out of me for some reason and I've been many times on the brink of leaving a comment but then I began doubting a comment from me may be in any way relevant to you, and I pressed cancel, and I went on lurking.
Your list is great.
Your *writing* is great.
I agree with most of your selections.
My favorites: "...and Spock and Kirk just look at each other for a minute, and Spock nods once, and Kirk closes his eyes" -- "This is a story about two people who started their acquaintance hating each other and ended up walking in step" -- "Frank claims she was raised by feral librarians" -- and "John owns 129 pieces of Confucian advice, none of which will help him save the world".
The last one I would like to add to my pillow file (probably going to be posted somewhere, sooner or later), with full reference of course.
I'm not big on mothers in general, but I'm very much in love with the way you look at heroes.
Thank you
(back to lurking)

I'm so glad you pressed "post comment" this time! I'm honoured and grateful to hear your thoughts and feedback. Thank you for your kind words about my writing and this list.

I'm sorry that I intimidate you! I promise I don't try to be intimidating. I've read your comments and feedback elsewhere (usually on J's LJ), and I've always been impressed by your grace and wisdom. Truly, I would welcome your thoughts whenever you felt like sharing them. I'm happy and certainly understand if you'd like to go back to lurking, but I'd also be thrilled if you'd like to comment more frequently.

I have to admit that I was very curious: what is a "pillow file" ? It sounds very intriguing.

Thank *you*!

(blush) thank you!
Pillow file as in pillow book. The file where I paste snippets of wisdom, wit or whatever, found in what I read on paper and online, or --sometimes-- heard in conversation. It's up to 800 Kb at the moment, and growing.
You're doing nothing to intimidate me; the problem is mine =)
I'm looking forward to reading the new, J-enabled story...
