Act I, Scene 2
Adam and Kris meet, and there is instant chemistry, but Kris is married and "straight," so very little, if anything, actually happens. You can hear their growing frustration with the unresolved sexual tension during this scene.
Pick U Up "Pick U Up" begins with an edgy synthesizer sound like FYE and then transitions into a more musical-theater style, while still maintaining the underlying dance-beat rhythm. The long introduction lets us know that we are at the beginning of the next scene. I actually had this song in completely the wrong place for a while, until I realized that "Alright With Me" is the only other song that has clapping.
Adam
says, "I think the term Pick U Up has two different meanings-- I'm going to lift you up/pick you up, and the other one is more 'I'm going to come pick you up at 8:00 and we're going to go have a ball, because everything's great now.' It explores the idea that- it's more a song about the past; about looking back saying 'Wow, this is how far I've come'; I can relate personally to it, and it's wonderful."
Alright With Me Like "Pick U Up," AWM is a fun up-beat song, with clapping. It transitions us into "Fever" with a groovier sound towards the end. Basically, Kris is mesmerized by Adam.
Fever- "Fever," Adam
says, "is pretty self-explanatory. It's basically about getting down... or wanting to get down with somebody you can't quite have, and it's the feeling like, "GRR! I desire you so much, but I can't have you you! GRR!'" I believe that "Fever" comes next because I think that Kris wrote some of "Alright With Me" to echo lines in "Fever," such as the numerous repetitions of "yeah." In "Alright with Me," Kris singsYeah, I'm knockin' on your door/Baby, baby please/Now I'm fallin' on your floor. Similarly, in "Fever," Adam sings Yeah I know we we both know/It isn't time, no/But could you mine Both songs, I think, are about how much each one desires the other, but it isn't totally clear if anything actually happens at this point in the story. Having heard Adam's explanation, I'm thinking maybe not.
"Fever" was written by Lady Gaga. It's interesting to compare her version to Adam's. The sultry piano accompaniment in Lady Gaga's version gives the song an air of naughtiness that isn't as present when Adam sings it. Adam's version sounds a little more fun and innocent, like "Alright With Me."

Can't Stay Away "Can't Stay Away" has a funky style similar to "Fever." Like Adam, Kris is frustrated... and also really confused about what his feelings mean.
I spent a lot of time debating whether Scene 2 ends with CSA or "Mad World." The more climactic ending of CSA makes me think that this is the end of the scene.
