Interesting idea! I also wonder whether this version of "purity" could have had something to do with that blood monitor on the cave, which despite what Dumbledore says doesn't sound like something Voldemort set up - what is it really measuring? Midichlorians? If the cave was originally supposed to be some sort of test of worthiness or vision quest, what was it originally measuring, if Voldemort changed it? And, besides looking for some sort of moral purity, could Slytherin have been looking for something as simple as "definitely magical, not a quasi-Squib who would be hard to teach"?

I've seen Red Hen's - can't remember whether I've seen Swythyv's. That's what got me thinking that whatever Slytherin was measuring might have been linked to whatever that old blood magic is.
