Just finished Naomi Klien's "The Shock Doctrine" last night, which is pretty amazing - depressing, angry-making and inspiring in turn (alright, you have to wait till you get to the last chapter till it gets inspiring...).
Hey, Danny! Carol from Brazil, here (I had to switch ids and start another weblog)
It's a fantastic depressing book, isn't it? I loved the magnitude of her data research, and the way she related information. All the time I had to stop and go "Shit, I'd never thought of that. It's bloody true, it is." Also, Klein was very thorough when speaking about Latin America, and very sensible and sensitive.
Yeah, it is a great book. Really filled out gaps in my world history. It's interesting from the perspective of someone in the West, how little we here about Latin America. Obviously this is because our Media are very Western-centric and regard anything outside the US/Europe as less important - but I've also wondered if part of this is the desire not to report any challenges to our right-leaning Conservative status quo.

He also called Christopher Hitchens a "disgusting sack of shit" for which he has my undying appreciation.
