"Living is Hard"

I am actually trying to get back into writing on the regular, at least for summer. It will probably be mostly about music as I have rediscovered my love of vinyl and am currently spending the national debt of a small nation on records.

This is an edit of something I wrote for another board, about a great compilation which got me thinking about related collections and why I like them. )

I should also mention Joe Bussard here - he’s a legendary American record collector who has been digging out old 78s all of his life. I have a compilation of his and the notes are filled with tales of days driving around the American south knocking on doors old log cabins, finding treasure dusty 10 inches. He kind of should be worshipped as a God or totem spirit by everyone who collects records. I can’t find any pictures of his collection on line, but they’d make your eyes water ( ... )

Please tell me the pipe isn't a gag.

I don't think it really goes against the grain at all, it's a lovely thing to do in fact. I don't know if there will be that much of exactly what I'm talking about here as the actual recordings are so rare, or non-existent in the case of the CD I began the post with. I may well have linked to stuff like that in the past, can't recall - I recently had my mind blown by discovering quite how much stuff was on there, and quite how obscure it all got, when discussing 80s soul tunes on dissensus.com I ran out of memories/tunes long before the stash was exhausted.

I must remember to listen to this. Sounds great. I saw the fanzine end of mail art culture and it was amazing. Thanks!
