A modest airflight proposal

Aug 10, 2006 14:22

Having discussed the new flight restrictions (no liquid, etc) with coworkers, and discovered to my horror that several of them think that they are entirely reasonable and see no reason for the restrictions ever to be lifted, I started thinking about obvious next steps ( Read more... )

Hmm. So you want planes filled with handcuffed, naked people being ordered around by flight attendants?

This is starting to sound like the premise of a really bad porn movie. :)

Heh. I'm mostly trying not to yell at liberty-for-security idiots at work. Cause, well, there's not enough WTF in the world for dealing with people buying into the "we have to make it SAFE" thing.
Especially when they're people who, in a police state, would fare very poorly.

I've got a lovely shirt with the Information Awareness Office logo on it that says, "I gave up my essential liberty for a little temporary security, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt."

You do know that that's part of the reason why they only pressurize planes to about 1/4-1/3 atm, right?

You could also save money and increase security by requiring passengers to ship their luggage separately via an independent shipping company (you should always plan ahead before a trip). If for some reason you needed a last minute flight, checked baggage could be available for an additional fee that would cover the cost of hand inspecting all luggage. This would also reduce the weight of aircrafts (less luggage) and conserve fuel, which is good for the environment.

Oddly enough, I made several comments along these lines today to my boss (who is flying to Veags for the weekend) hours before reading this post.
