Telephone tech support is hard work, but it has been a good stepping stone for many.
I learned a lot in my time on the phones-- and think it ought to be a requirement for all programmers --but I can't say it did much for my nerves or my love of fellow man. Which is to say: I'm glad I did it, but I'm glad to not be doing it any more.
