I like the atmosphere that the red lends to the first alteration, but I've never been a fan of the glow. It just seems...cheap? I'm not sure.
The second of Dave (great lighting on his face, ps - and i love the catchlights) is okay, but doesn't strike my fancy like it could. Maybe a little lighter on the process? I like the concept, but I feel that this particular action makes his eyes appear very hollow and looses a lot of emotion.
I myself am somewhat undecided when it comes to 'the glow'. I like the look, sometimes, of a incredibly high contrast image, where the tonal value of the middle greys have been lost. And I tend to assiociate mask with fairie folk, so my hope was to create an impression of her being otherworldly, or something to that effect. I'll likely play around with it some more.
As for the second one of Dave, that was inspired by the style of animation used in the movies Waking Life, and A Scanner Darkly, where the artist animates footage shot using real cameras and actors/actresses. As with the other altered image, I may still play around with it... Perhaps I will indeed expariment with lighting up slightly on that effect.
Thank you ever so kindly for your opinions, though. :)
