I don't know to which side of judicial politics the jakarta post swings, but from what i understand (and i've been watching the political commentary on this case with interest).. in all probability, the real reason she was given a larger sentence than some other perpetrators of similar crimes was because she pleaded not guilty instead of pleading guilty, admitting her wrong-doing, and pleading for the forgiveness of the Indonesian court. It's very hard to find the truth amongst all the media hype but this seemed the most credible explanation to me so far.

From what I could read into it, it looked as though the judge had already decided on the outcome right from the very start, he planned on making an example of this women, for whatever reason you may want to claim it for, and he did so ( ... )
