Maybe I need more coffee....

But I am having a hard time understanding my positive quote of the day...maybe someone could help me out (or at least *bonk* me over the head and tell me to wake up!)

Absence diminishes commonplace passions and enhances great ones.

-- French Proverb

I believe it means when you're removed from your usual position in life you tend to forget about, or care less about, the small things you used to enjoy like your favorite show, chatting idly at the pub, etc and instead begin to yearn for more meaningful passions that you possess like writing, learning how to dance, painting, etc.

It could be said that if threw away your TV (idiot box) you'd be more inclined to pursue the greater things you love to do.

Or I could be completely off.

P.S.
This is the entire quote:

“Absence diminishes mediocre passions and increases great ones, as the wind extinguishes candles and fans fires.”
-Francois de La Rochefouca

More directly, if someone leaves your life for a while (a month overseas, or something) and was just a good acquaintance, you would probably think of them less because they were gone.... but if Eire or a close left for a month, you'd probably think of them MORE.

unrelated to your post, a quote from my book i think you'll like:

"I sneak a look at the watch of the guy on my right. He's got one of those immense sports watches that you can use to time sprints or call the mothership. It's 9:58." p. 367, The Time Traveler's Wife
