No, I don't NEED that. I NEED to take a deep breath and step away from choosing a cell phone for a moment ( Read more... )

Don't go for the extra features. If you want to take good pictures, buy a camera.

For Verizon (which is the best choice because of service quality anyways), the phone to look for is the Samsung ACH-a650 or something similar (I think I have the a670 or a680 or whatever, but it's basically the same thing). It's very good at what it does, which is be a phone, and it's not expensive because it doesn't offer any superfluous features like mp3 playback or weird shit like that. You can get one for free on the Verizon site along with signing up for service.

Oh, don't think that this would be the camera. I would want it as an additional camera.

But I appreciate the suggestion!

but want to suggest that you try out the service standing inside the house you plan to rent for a month. Everybody tells me I have cell service here on Cerro Gordo...except you have to go outside and stand by the entrance of the drive to get a signal with anyone - including Verizon & Qwest.

I second Vail's point about the camera...but for a different reason. IF you get a camera on the fucking cell phone - we will all get twice as many pictures of point than we will if you are just doing it with a regular camera. For the baby picture taking, in my own interest (and that of my hard drive), I would recommend a standard 5x7 box camera, prefereably one that shoots on glass film, and requires about 1,000 watts of lighting.

What this accomplishes is a reduction in the number of pictures made....like one every year or so. Which is plenty enough.

Can you hear me now?

Don't worry. I'll take you off the Christmas Card list.

And since we're going to be living off Governor Miles road, I suspect that we are close enough to Cerillos to get cell phone service. But if we aren't, it doesn't really matter. We never get any calls anyway. This is more about getting the camera so that I can inundate your hard drive with hundreds of pictures of me in action poses.

I would have pegged you more as the crackberry type cell user than as a camera phone type. the latter seems more teeny-bopper, the former more appropriate to a sometimes business/law school hopeful.

I don't want to spend the money on that sort of service. While I'd love to have it, you'd spend a ton on the crackberry device and then you'd be hit with a monthly bill that would make your head s'plode.

Camera phones are interesting because there are some legitimate practical applications to them. This article here is a good example of how phonecams can be rather useful.
