Superbad Icon

My first tutorial made in PSP :D Featuring a screencap from the movie Superbad

Going from
 to

~Uses Curves and Color Balance
~Should be translatable to newer versions of Photoshop
~VERY easy, made for beginners just learning curves

Follow the fake cut

Step 1:

First things first, we're going to take a screencap and crop it to 100 px by 100 px. Sharpen it as much as you want.

Step 2:

Duplicate the base and set it to Screen, but only at 30%. We don't want it too bright!

Step 3:

Create a new Color Balance layer by going to Layer-->New Adjustment Layer-->Color Balance. We're only going to be working with Midtones. Make sure you have Perserve Luminance checked and input these values:

Color Levels: -57, -27, 20

So now we have this:

Step 4:

Create a new Curves Layer. Go to Layer-->New Adjustment Layer-->Curves

Now, since this is written for beginners, I'm going to explain what to do to achieve this coloring in this icon only, so just punch in the numbers ^_^

You should have something like this:

Now click with your mouse on the following points in the graph to plot points at those spaces

Click on the first point (the bluish one) and put the following values:

INPUT: 58
OUTPUT: 76

Now for the second point (magenta):

INPUT: 100
OUTPUT: 138

And the last point (lime green)

INPUT: 169
OUTPUT: 214

So now your graph should look something like this:

And your icon should look something like this:

Step 5:

Go to Edit-->Copy Merged and then paste as a new layer. Set that layer to Soft Light, 100%

Step 6:

Finally, flood a new raster layer with #d4e8f6 and set to Burn 100%

And you're done! As always, experiment with colors, and play around with your curves. I tried to explain it in a really simple, easy way, so beginners can get the desired effect they want.

I'd love to see what else you come up with!
