At the very least, a Journalism degree is solid to fall back on. Everyone likes someone who can write (and writ concisely), so at least you'll have a way to pay for carpentry school!

Nope! Pre-apprenticeship training: Free.

Basic/Intermediate/Advanced School: $400 each term (And you can collect EI while you're in class)

Apprenticeship: Starting wage $15.75 an hour
$19.12 after 1800 hours
$22.43 after that
$27.28 after that
and $32.16 as Journeyman.

$2,000 in Apprenticeship Grants from the government to cover school and tools ('cause getting EI isn't enough)

Tools as a tax deduction

10% vacation pay, benefits, free upgrade courses from the union.

$20,000+ in expenses from 4 years of university compared to earning over $165,000 in under three and a half years (if you don't take any time off)

Let's just say I'm not too worried about affording it.

Long story short, job market is not what I would like. I don't want to move out of the province to work, and the videography isn't steady enough to work as a full time job.

So I figured I'd look for something where the job market is a lot better and that pays well.

Needless to say, this fits that description quite well :)
