Audacity is a free audio-editing program that I recommend. I've used it to edit songs and splice audio clips together for work or for eldest's school dance routines. That said, I don't know if it works with AAC format music. I shun iTunes and work only with DRM-free music files in MP3 format.
Reading the documentation, you'll probably have to convert your music to Ogg Vorbis, MP3, WAV or AIFF format but you should be able to do that with an export option.
